Fairmead House, our recently completed project, has been featured on ArchDaily – a generous acknowledgement of our modernist home renovation in St Albans, Hertfordshire. The project reflects the studio's interest in simplicity, thoughtful detailing, subtle material shifts and a closer relationship with nature.
Fairmead House – Oak Kitchen
Located beside open meadows, Fairmead House reworks a 1970s bungalow to bring more clarity, warmth and coherence to the spaces. Natural oak cabinetry, biopolymer resin flooring, reconstituted stone and anodised aluminium form a tactile palette that supports a calm and engaging domestic atmosphere.
The design reorganises the plan to create a more intuitive flow between kitchen, dining and living areas, treating them as one continuous environment oriented towards different outdoor spaces. Large windows and blurred thresholds help the house feel more open and connected to its surroundings, while maintaining the essence of the existing structure.
Seeing Apricot Square's Fairmead House published on ArchDaily serves as a reminder of how considered design can have a lasting impact on everyday life when approached with care.
