Background

Apricot Square was founded in London by architect Juan Guilmar Perez Baldoni in 2025. The studio aims to create distinct work that feels culturally resonant, open-ended and relevant to contemporary life, giving shape to a wider shift in how we understand our built environment today.

Juan Guilmar completed his professional qualifications at the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL), following a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the National University of La Plata (UNLP) in Argentina. His formal training is complemented by a broader creative foundation, including early studies in fine art and an ongoing interest in music composition, influences that continue to inform his layered, multidisciplinary approach to architecture.

Alongside leading Apricot Square, he forms part of the established practice Common Ground Workshop, contributing to residential and hospitality projects of diverse scales across London. There, he led the design of Spitalfields House, which was named among the eleven best new homes in the UK at the 2022 Manser Medal (AJ House of the Year) awards.

Juan Guilmar is a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and is registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB).

Approach

We believe that good design is not defined by budget but by clarity of vision and thoughtful execution. Whether modest or ambitious, each project is approached with the same care, holding the broadest strategy and the smallest detail in mind from the outset. The aim is to create spaces that are elegant, functional, and inspiring, guided by a sense of optimism in creation.

Everyday experience is central to our process. We often begin with materiality, light, and spatial sequence, finding opportunities within site constraints. By connecting with wider cultural and contextual narratives, each project becomes distinctive and rooted in its place.

This approach is non-hierarchical across project types and scales. We treat each commission as an opportunity to do our best work and to learn with our clients and collaborators along the way. What defines the practice is not a particular style but a consistent attitude and way of working: attentive, intuitive, and rigorous.

Process

Apricot Square follows best industry practice and the RIBA Plan of Work – structuring each stage with clear deliverables, systematic quality control, and open communication. Clients can expect regular reviews, workshops, and a transparent design process tailored to their needs.

Our method blends modern technologies with traditional techniques – from photography, modelling and visualisation to sketching, prototyping and on-site testing. This dynamic workflow allows ideas to be explored from multiple angles, ensuring each proposal is carefully considered, clearly communicated, and refined well before construction begins.

From concept design through planning to completion, we oversee every stage of the process, ensuring the original vision is carried through with clarity, care and precision.

Approach

Apricot Square believes good design is defined not by budget but by clarity of vision and thoughtful execution. Whether modest or ambitious, each project receives the same level of care, holding the broad strategy and the smallest detail in mind from the outset. The aim is to create spaces that are engaging, inspiring, and responsive to shifts in contemporary life.

Materiality is central to our process. We often begin by thinking through materials – their texture, weight, tone, and how they might shape atmosphere or carry meaning over time. Balancing emotional resonance with technical performance, we see architecture as an interplay between structure and atmosphere.

This approach remains horizontal across all project types and scales. We treat each commission as an opportunity to do our best work, and to learn with our clients along the way. What unites the practice is not a particular visual style, but a consistent attitude and way of working: attentive, intuitive and rigorous.

Sustainability & Wellbeing

Sustainability is built into our way of thinking, not added on. We believe considered design is the most powerful tool for creating long-lasting, low-impact architecture. Wherever possible, we work with what’s already there, embracing minimal yet impactful interventions and prioritising what’s necessary to unlock a site’s potential.

We design with wellbeing in mind: natural light, adaptable layouts, and tactile materials that enhance comfort, air quality, and mood. Our projects are underpinned by ongoing research into best practice around energy use, embodied carbon, and circular construction. Beyond metrics, the aim is to foster a deeper sense of care, where sustainability becomes an inherent part of everyday life.

Project Types & Clients

Apricot Square’s work spans private residential, cultural installations, retail displays, and custom interiors. What ties these together is not sector but approach: a contextual sensitivity, an ability to uncover design potential in overlooked conditions, and a strong sense of atmosphere. Each project is made to feel specific, both to its setting and to the people it serves.

We work best with clients who are engaged, curious, and invested in the value of good design. Every project is a collaboration, and we believe the best outcomes stem from shared trust, clarity, and ambition. Each brief is developed and expanded with care and conviction.

Collaborations

We work closely with a trusted network of collaborators – from structural engineers and heritage consultants to artists and specialist craftspeople. The studio adapts its team to suit the needs of each project, combining flexibility with strong leadership to maintain clarity and direction throughout.

Our collaborative mindset is grounded in experience. We believe that thoughtful partnerships lead to richer, more layered work.
